The British Academy has named the nominees for its Rising Star award for up-and-coming onscreen talent, the only honor among the BAFTA film awards to be voted on by the public.
Announced more than a week before the full lineup of BAFTA nominations is unveiled on Jan. 18, the 2024 lineup of Rising Star nominees includes some of the biggest names from the last year in film and TV and a very recent Golden Globe winner. The five-strong list is made up of Phoebe Dynevor (“Fair Play,” “Bridgerton”), Ayo Edebiri (“Theater Camp,” “Bottoms,” “The Bear”), Jacob Elordi (“Priscilla,” “Saltburn”), Mia McKenna-Bruce (“How to Have Sex”) and Sophie Wilde (“Talk to Me”).
Nominees were selected by a panel of industry jurors including actors Daisy Edgar-Jones, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Himesh Patel as well as a number of casting directors, producers, and industry experts.

In 2023, “Sex Education” breakout and “Emily” star Emma Mackey won the award (a factor that could bode well for Dynevor, who also has home advantage), joining an impressive list of talent to have been named Rising Star over the 19 years since it was introduced. Previous winners include Daniel Kaluuya, Tom Holland, Letitia Wright, John Boyega, James McAvoy and Tom Hardy.

The 2024 BAFTA Rising Star will be awarded at the BAFTA film awards ceremony on Feb. 18 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
